There is an old song from my childhood (Gathier Band I think) that goes ‘All night, all day, angels watching over me, my Lord’.  That is the first thing that comes to mind when I see these pictures!

On Saturday, July 1st, Brenna was driving up to work with Charissa and I along as passengers.  Brenna will be 16 in about a month, and has been practicing her driving for years now in preparation.  As she made a right turn onto a relatively busy road, we saw a white SUV to our right at a stop sign of a small side street.  We even talked about how the person seemed to be sort of rolling and stopping and rolling again as if they were unsure if they should pull out or not.  Brenna braked slightly in case the SUV decided to go (even though we had the right of way), but the SUV seemed to stop again.  It wasn’t until we were right in front of the SUV that it went forward again – into the side of our car!

The speeds were slow enough that airbags did not deploy on either car, but obviously our newest, pretty, red car (dubbed ‘Clifford’ by the girls) suffered quite a bit of damage.  The police man at the scene told Brenna that she did the safest thing possible by taking the hit and pulling to the side of the road.  Many folks often swerve left to try to avoid being hit but then increase the severity of the accident by involving other cars.

Everyone was shaken up, and I hate that Brenna has this memory so close to being able to drive on her own, but we are so grateful that things were not worse.  Our car and the SUV were the only ones involved in the accident.  No one from either car had to go to the hospital by ambulance.  Brenna was not hurt at all, and Charissa and I just have bruises and soreness (yes, we went to the clinic to get checked out, nothing broken).  Praise the Lord with us for all these blessings.  The car is in the shop, and probably will be until we return from Colorado.  Please pray for all the repair/insurance details to work out well, and that Charissa and I will stop aching soon!  Also, pray for safety on our upcoming long drive – an experience like this reminds you that accidents really can happen! Thanks!
