These pictures are from our very own ‘major snow event’! OK, so here in Arkansas that meant a whole 3-4 inches falling Thursday night and into Friday. That did mean that all of Arkansas was ‘shut down’ for the day, though. And many events have been canceled for today (Saturday) as well. When we first moved down here from Up North, I thought all of this panic for just a bit of snow and ice was quite foolish, but after 6 years of it I understand much better. There really is not the equipment for clearing winter weather, we just have to wait for nature to clear itself. We depend on the temperatures getting warm enough to melt, with only the main highways getting plowed. Those getting pounded by blizzard conditions back East will probably be able to get back on the roads faster. Crazy, eh?!?
Eric will be able to let me know about that, since he is in the middle of that storm right now. I dropped him at the airport early Thursday morning, headed for some FamilyLife meetings in New Jersey. He was able to have his meetings Friday and even get a bonus side trip to his family in PA this weekend. That is quite a ‘God story’, since this trip to New Jersey has been planned for weeks, but just this week Eric’s Dad ended up in the hospital with heart trouble. Since he was already flying to the East Coast, Eric was able to carve out a few days to visit with him at the hospital as he recovers from surgery to place a defibrillator in his heart. The tricky part now is that the snow in PA began at 10 pm Friday night, and is expected to continue until Sunday morning! In theory, Eric is due back in New Jersey Sunday evening, to help host a ‘Stepping Up’ event there all day Monday. Then he plans to fly home Tuesday morning, in time to help with our big Arkansas Diamond speech & debate event here in Little Rock. All those plans are a bit up in the air right now as the snow continues to fall.
I know this monster of a snow storm is hitting many of you, and we pray that all will be safe and sound. We would also ask you to pray for Eric as he balances what he is expecting to do with what the weather and safety will allow him to do. We are so grateful that he has been able to be there for his family, and see his father in person in the recovery room of the hospital! We are also praying that this Stepping Up event is able to happen, and that he will get safely home to us!
