This past week, Deb and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary.  In many ways it was just another day on the calendar.  I went to the office, Deb homeschooled the girls, Charissa went to work that night.  In other ways it was significant.

I’m sure very few people know what the theme gift should be for the 24th anniversary.  For those in the audience who guessed musical instruments (without doing a web search), you get a prize.  So, I’m going to count it that Deb and I went out for brunch the day prior and listened to a live sax play while eating.  Hey, when you get to our age and stage you count the small things.

It is significant though because our marriage, like most marriages, has resembled this picture of Oreos.  You see, sometimes it looks great and operates great – just like a good Oreo should (cookie on right):

“Oh oh oh, ice cold milk and an Oreo cookie, they forever go together, what a classic combination. When a dark delicious cookie meets an icy cold sensation, like the one and only creamy crunchy chocolate O-R-E-O. Keeps your milk from getting lonely.”

Other times though, our marriage resembles the cookie on the left in the picture – we seem to be put together backwards / inside out.  We don’t get along.  Frankly, we rub each other the wrong way.

Why is it significant?  Because we’ve worked through those times where we weren’t that “classic combination.”  God has used those times to mold and shape us into better tools to be used for His Glory.  We didn’t give up – even when we looked like damaged cookies!

May God help you in your marriage (or have you help others in theirs).  Almost forgot – your prize – go have an Oreo cookie – and listen to some music – O-R-E-O!
