Amanda did great at her speeches, but learned the hard lesson that even when you do well you may not get a prize. Here she is getting a participation award, but she did not place in her two events.

Sorry to miss Brenna in this weeks post, but she spent the 3 days of the Arkansas Diamond Speech and Debate Tournament crashed on the couch with the flu!  We missed her, but she was too miserable to miss us much.  We are glad to report that after a full week of fever and misery, she is feeling better!

Charissa with her 6th place award for her 'Dramatic Interp' on Anne of Green Gables

Charissa with her 6th place award for her ‘Dramatic Interp’ on Anne of Green Gables
This is the award that Mom was most proud of - 2nd place in Mars Hill. This difficult event is where the students enter a room with slips of paper on the table. Each slip contains an item of popular culture (book, movie, song, etc.) They have 4 min. to formulate a 6 min evangelistic speech on this topic that uses this topic as a bridge between pop culture and the gospel. Charissa worked hard for this one!

End result - 2nd place for Mars Hill, 6th place for Dramatic Interp, and 2nd place for her speech on the moral decline of America in comparison to Ancient Rome.

This is one of my favorite shots - Charissa and her debate partner, Hannah at the awards. Beware the 'ponytail girls', all you senior debaters - they are getting better every time!
